St Joseph's Tewkesbury

Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church is in the diocese of Clifton, and is served by Father Joby Lukose.

We are fortunate to have plenty of space for parking in the church car park. Permits allowing parishioners to park in the church area whilst shopping or doing business in the town are available from the office.

The main parish office is staffed by Administrator Chris Davies 8.30am – 1.30pm each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Our Liturgy

In normal times we have a sung Mass every Sunday. A wide range of music is used to suit the Liturgical season and a small group of singers meet regularly to practice the music and lead the congregation in song. It is said that “those who sings pray twice!” Please feel free to come along.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Since we restarted St Joseph’s Children’s Liturgy at our Sunday morning service, the numbers attending have steadily grown. This is both pleasing for the catechist and valuable for the children to get to know each other as they attend a variety of schools in the area and would not ordinarily meet.

This year we have been able to deliver the liturgy to the children at their level very often – chiming in with what a number of our youngsters are hearing at their preparation classes for First Holy Communion in the Summer.

Pre school and primary aged children (and their parents), are welcome to join us for our liturgy in the Narthex.

a future full of hope

First Holy Communion

Recently the parish was thrilled to celebrate with one of our recently arrived Indian families as their daughter received her First Holy Communion.

Thoroughly prepared in her homeland, A was the first girl to receive FHC in St Joseph’s for some years and we stayed behind after Mass to have cake and juice/coffee and congratulate her. A small gift from the parish was presented alongside the usual certificate to mark and record this very special day.

Next summer we have a number of children who are currently undergoing preparation at St Gregory’s due to make their FHC and we hope most will chose to do so in our church.

If you have a talent for flower-arranging (or would like to develop one) make yourself known to Angela Thompson who heads the flower arranging team. During the pandemic we began to use mainly silk flowers to reduce the number of visits necessary for maintaining the arrangements.
